IOC to Decide on Sport Added to 2008 Olympics Programs in November The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make the decision in November on which sport to be added to the program at the 2008 Olympic Games, IOC sports director Gilbert Felli said Friday. "It's not the task of the IOC Coordination Commission to decide the sport, but to make proposals for the sport." Felli told a press conference after an IOC working group wound up its three-day visit to Beijing. The 23-member IOC team, made up of members of the IOC Coordination Commission for the 2008 Games and experts in a variety fields such as finance, traffic, environment, finance, security and marketing, held discussions with the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) during the visit. BOCOG has asked the IOC to consider its strong desire of including Wushu, a traditional Chinese sport, into the 2008 Olympic program since Beijing was awarded the right to host the Games. The IOC has set up a Program Commission to take charge of the reduction and increase of any sport at Olympic Games. "The Program Commission had a meeting in July to analyze all the sports which are in the program," said Felli. "Finally they found some of them (the sports) deserved to be reduced and also analyzed the all 15 requests made to the IOC." Felli said the Program Commission would report to the IOC executive board later this month before the IOC session make the final decision in November. "The executive board will make some proposals to the IOC session in November." he said. "By the end of November this year, we should know which sport will be in the program of the 2008 Olympic."
