Japan should properly handle "sex slave" issue: FM Spokesman

Forcing women to be sex slaves is a severe crime committed by the Japanese militarism during World War II, and China demanded the Japanese side to seriously treat and properly handle such issues left after the war.

Chinese Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remark in Beijing on December 16 at a regular press conference while he was responding to a question about Tokyo High Court's rejection of the suit filed by four Chinese women who sought compensation from the Japanese government for being used by the Japanese as sex slaves during World War II.

It is reported that while refusing to grant compensation, the court recognized that the four plaintiffs were taken to Japanese military bases and repeatedly raped between 1942 and 1944 in Shanxi Province in north China.
