Chinese women in the eyes of foreigners

Betty, a 25-year-old Hungarian girl, came to China last September. She is now studying Chinese in Beijing Language and Culture University. She said the Chinese women she saw when she was in Hungary were all elderly ones who set up stalls at the fairs. "After I came to China I see that Chinese girls are passionate, lively, smart and open-minded. They receive novel things with open mind.

Also a Hungarian Imre arrived in China eight months ago. He teaches while traveling. He said most Chinese women are shy. "In some remote places when I am shopping in the stores some female assistants dare not to look at me, let alone looking me in the eye."

However, he felt that Chinese women are more feminine and give more attention to family and children. They do the household works in perfect order. "Western women pay too much attention to themselves and are too ambitious in their career. When they try to be as equally strong as men they have lost their feminity. Imre is now associating with a Chinese girlfriend. He believes the first impression a Chinese girl leaves to a westerner is that they are usually shy and bashful. But further association with them will show that they are open and active in mind and very kind in heart.

"Having a craze for white skin, a slim body and loving their husbands" is the impression the 27-year-old Daniel got from Chinese women. Daniel came to China from Hungary last year. He works at China Radio International. He said many Chinese women use an umbrella in the summer hoping to keep their skin white and tender while westerners love to have their skin tanned. Chinese girls would be the slimmest if they were in Europe or Americas. But they still often complain: "Ah, I have too much weight!" Chinese women's love for their husbands is also unforgettable for him. "I often see them sitting at the back of their husbands' or boyfriends' bikes looking rather happy."

Peggy, an American lady in her 60s, came to teach at Jiangxi Vocational College of Finance and Economics. She said she was surprised to see Chinese men cooking, even taking care of children while many young girls cannot cook. It made her feel incredible because in an American family it is usually the women who do all the housework. It is the same even for career women.

Peggy discovered that love on the campus is usually initiated by girls. For example, when a couple graduate the boy often follows the girl to another town to work. Moreover, she also discovered that Chinese career women work very hard and " are striving for equal promotion opportunities as men." She thinks in this respect they are "becoming more and more like American women".
